Romeo And Juliet Project: Essay On Fate (draft) Y9

Fate is a force that pre-determines the lives of people. Fate is shown in many ways in Shakespeare’s plays. This is seen in Romeo and Juliet where Romeo and Juliet meet by co-incidence or fate at the party, this means that Romeo did not decide to meet Juliet and it was fate.

The reason I would say this is fate is because Romeo didn’t want to go to the party but he ended up getting forced in to attending the party. Romeo promised himself he would never fall in love with another girl but Rossaline, but Romeo ends up falling in love with the next girl he met, Juliet.

When Juliet said: “Go ask his name, if he be married My grave is like to be my wedding bed.”
This is an example of fate because Juliet foreshadowed her death because at the end of the book Juliet dies in her grave.

ROMEO: “O, I am fortune’s fool!”
This is another example of fate or fortune because when Romeo kills Tybalt he does not say it is him who killed him but it was fortune also known as fate.

Fate is a big part of romeo and Juliet because when the friar tried to pass on the message to Romeo that Juliet was not dead the village was under quarantine, at the time the people believed illnesses were due to god and fate is when your life is pre-determined or in this case pre-determined by god.

If this was Shakespeare putting fate it wouldn’t be fate but free will because if god did determine their lives then why did they both kill themselves because at the time it was believed that doing that was one of the biggest crimes in their religion, this suggests Shakespeare was not putting fate into the play.

The Montague’s and Capulets both hate each other so it might be fate because two Montague’s and Capulets who are the same age end up falling in love.
This might be a example of fate because the two family’s had been in a feud for such a long time it was unknown what the cause of the feud was. So when Romeo who didn’t love anyone but Rossaline and Juliet was being forced to marry Paris when they ended up falling in love this May of been a example of fate.

Romeo: I have such bad luck.
